Hi Maddisun!

Your name has an interesting spelling! Tell us more!

Hi! thank you… I actually created the moniker based on my first name Maddison. I remember one day while I was living abroad in Europe, I came up with the idea to go by “Maddisun” I really felt connected to the sun, it’s kind of like “Maddi of the sun”

How do you most enjoy sharing your music with your fans?

I just released my debut album “Self Reflections”. I love connecting and building my fans on Bandcamp, so they can directly support my music. I do really enjoy the artist profile that you can create on Spotify, and streaming is a great and easy way to access music. I also like sharing my music clips and covers on Instagram!

How long have you been an artist and when did you know that music was going to be the only career for you?

I have known for quite a long time. I started playing the piano at the age of 5. I was always singing and dancing from a very young age. I think I knew around 12 that I wanted to be “famous” hahah.. at the time that seemed achievable, but now I would love to just be able to support myself with my music.

Tell us about your very first concert experience and how old were you?

I remember going to see my favourite band “Lillix” in my hometown, Cranbrook. They were actually from Cranbrook as well so it was pretty sweet. (Shoutout Louise Burns). Amazing femme vibes, little teenage me in the moshpit, I think I was about 13… it was incredible! I loved their music, still do!

If you could write a duet with any artist (living or non) who would it be?

I would love to write a song with Stevie Nicks. She is a true legend and I have been listening to Fleetwood Mac since I was a child. My parents introduced me to classic rock and 70s music really early on. I have always been a huge fan of Stevie. Landslide is the most beautiful song, I cover it quite often.

We believe music is absolutely healing.  How do you think your original music enriches your life and the lives of those around you?

I would completely agree with that! I have always wanted to go into music therapy actually. The healing benefits of music and playing instruments are endless! I love connecting with those deeper parts of myself when I’m writing that I wouldn’t otherwise. Things start to pour out when you write a song and really let go, it’s so healing to let yourself express whatever you need.

What is your mission with music and how do you connect that with your fans?

I am always trying to make music that reflects who I am. I write about my truths, and my music is very honest. I don’t write music that would necessarily fit in the charts. I don’t abide by the rules of the genre, and I think this is important for how I connect with my fans. Diversity in a fan base is really important to me, and I have so many different types of people in my crew! I want to connect with people on a deeper level, as my music is so personal. <3

Please tell us about the inspiration behind your latest release.

My latest release “Self-Reflections” is my debut album. I received a really special grant from Creative BC to record and produce the album. I went out to this beautiful off-grid studio in the Canadian mountains near where I live, (Sincerity Sound Studio). The album was very reflective, and introspective, as you can imagine. It was definitely coming of age… I wrote about a lot of really formative experiences. Things that truly make me, me!

I would love it if everyone took a listen to the album, on SpotifyApple MusicBandcamp
