Elektragaaz is a group that cannot be pigeonholed, some of their influences include Rock, Film Noir, and Disco. Their sound is distinctly their own, their most noticeable trait is the artistic vision of The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4. There is no shortage of variety on this EP, it opens with anthem “The Defiant Ones” and ends with disco influenced track “Her Body Is A Dance.” Not to mention the momentous spy-thriller themed track “CounterSpy” that appears in the middle of the EP. Every track on The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4 is well executed and able to stand on its own. The more that you listen to each track the more you discover. So many instruments, thoughts, and ideas are in them. The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4 is an artistic feat.
One of my favorite aspects of The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4 is that there are no vocals or lyrics. It reminded me of the power music inherently holds. The music relies on itself to convey the theme of each song, effortlessly. It can be hard to get people to listen to instrumental music, unless its classical, and even then they can be hesitant. I think this reaction is due to the fact they’ve never heard Elektragaaz’s take on instrumental. Intention is at the head of Elektragaaz’s vision, this intent has a profound effect on the finished product. The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4 is music you can daydream to. Elektragaaz has given listeners songs that have endless room for interpretation.

“An Autumn Fall, A Dying Dance” is a stand out track and my personal favorite on the EP. This song is slower than the others, a little moodier due to 80’s feeling synthesizers, and an edge of melancholy mixed in. It somehow propelled me back in time and into the future. I could’ve easily been back at a High School Dance or at a gala on a space craft. That’s the magic of what Elektragaaz is doing, the range in their influences, expands the range of your imagination. Elektragaaz is making groundbreaking music that encourages people to do more than just listen.
Elektragaaz has reinvigorated and redefined instrumental music. The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4 is proof of how much potential instrumental music has. How often do you come across music that is essentially a blank slate for your mind to create to? Not often. If you’re in the mood to create or your imagination needs a little nourishment, listen to The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4, your creativity will wake up. Check it out!
