Pride 2009 brought with it the birth of New York City’s leading Gay magazine, “Get Out Magazine”. A vision by publisher Michael Todd, a retail manager from Indiana who had no idea how to produce a publication, but followed his dream and made it happen. Todd’s creativity has recently been celebrated as Get Out Magazine was just named 7th best LGBTQ magazine on the planet by Feedspot, the content reader for reading all of your favorite websites in one place.
The initial photos were taken at Queens Pride on June 7, 2009, and was distributed June 28th several weeks later, and has since been colorfully published weekly. It offers the community a wide variety of interviews, weekly columns, nightclub and bar directories, up and coming events, reviews, and vibrant pictures of events and LGBTQ happenings. The magazine remains a free publication distributed in all of the Gay clubs, bars, bookstores and special events around NYC and the boroughs, as well as selected cities up and down the East Coast.
Get Out Magazine has published leading celebrity interviews including: Diana Ross, Jennifer Hudson, Jane Lynch, Annie Lennox, Sandra Bernhardt, Cyndi Lauper, Rick Springfield, Melissa Etheridge, RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Ross Matthews, Michael Urie, Michael Musto, LeAnn Rimes, Dionne Warwick, Toni Braxton, Kelly Ripa, Joanna Lumley, Jennifer Saunders, Debbie Gibson, Taylor Dayne, Ultra Nate, Jody Watley, Mary Wilson, Fran Drescher, Brook Shields, Lisa Stansfield, Kim Wilde, Cheap Trick, Stray Cats, Karyn White, Deborah Cox, Rick Springfield, Bianca Del Rio, Lady Bunny, Honey Davenport, Amanda LePore, Peppermint, Sasha Velour, Jimmy Star, Ron Russell and Kylie Minogue, just to name a small few. The publication also publishes conversations with LGBTQ indie artists and rising artists in the community including Aaron Paul, Lovari, The FMs, American High, Ike Avelli, and many more. Most of these interviews are written by rock star journalist Eileen Shapiro, best-selling author, and celebrity interviewer.
Get Out also includes a weekly column created by Ian-Michael Bergeron, graphic designs by Agota Correa, and photography via Jeff Eason of Wilson Models, and celebrity photographer Billy Hess.
