Georgia Cortes Rayner, a resident of Scotts Head, Australia since 2004, considers it her home despite being born in Brooklyn, New York, to parents from Australia and Ecuador. Growing up in New Orleans and Brooklyn, she pursued various careers in law, town planning and local government. However, at the age of fifty two, she bravely embraced her passion for music and became a full-time singer-songwriter. Three years later, at age fifty five, she released her debut album titled The Past Is A Passenger

It was evident to me how much work was put into this album from the production to the songwriting. Everything feels like it was thought out and the type of album that sounds best when listening to the songs sequentially.

The opening track of the album, titled “Don’t Poke The Bear,” centers around the enchanting embrace of acoustic instrumentation. With meticulous production, the song emanates an authentic and organic essence. Its infectious melody, relatable lyrics and lively spirit make it irresistibly catchy and enjoyable. Serving as a robust opener, it skillfully sets the tone and mood for the entire album, inviting listeners into this musical journey that awaits.

Rayner solidifies her artistic prowess with the enjoyable track “So Much Ugly,” a superb composition adorned with inventive guitar licks and skillful brushwork on the drums. The overall atmosphere exudes a relaxed and serene vibe, inducing a delightful sense of tranquility while experiencing this captivating song. At this point I was seriously starting to appreciate the vocals which seemed to grow on me the more I listened to the song.

In “You’re Still Our Superman,” Rayner presents an intimate and captivating song that leaves a lasting impression. The melancholic undertones add depth and emotional resonance, while the percussion shines once again, impeccably crafted to create an organic and authentic sound. The overall result is truly wonderful, showcasing Rayner’s ability to create heartfelt and genuine music.

“Flame” felt like a single to my ears. The song rocks and is very joyful. I thought the hook was really well done. Rayner’s vocals soar here and displays different sides to her approach. I thought it was a high point on the album. It’s a song that you will want to listen to with the windows rolled down. I can imagine a huge crowd singing along with this one. I think it will be a lot of people’s favorite track on the album. It makes you feel good.

Rayner’s artistry shines through in “We Are Here,” evoking a profound sense of introspection, while “All Grown Up” envelops listeners in a serene and ethereal ambiance, perfect for contemplation. The album is replete with standout tracks like “Pineapple Ridge,” “Isn’t It Time” and the closing masterpiece “Unplanned Destination.” These songs exemplify Rayner’s consistent ability to deliver exceptional musical moments.

Rayner’s latest release is an absolute triumph, showcasing their exceptional talent. The album’s meticulous conception and execution are evident throughout, making it a standout release. Its captivating nature ensures that it will be revisited and cherished long after the initial listen, leaving a lasting impression.
