Special ICON Award Presented During Oscar Viewing Party to Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles Zaib Shaikh in Honor of Donald Sutherland
Filmmaker Jonathan Baker recently honored Donald Sutherland at his annual gala Oscar Viewing Party on March 2nd, held at his home Baker Manor, the iconic estate in Beverly Hills formerly owned by Warren Beatty and Annette Bening.
During the arrivals of the event, a special Icon Award Presentation, presented by Jonathan Baker and French Riviera Film Festival co-founder Nicole Muj, was made in honor of Donald Sutherland. The Honorable Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles Zaib Shaikh accepted the award on the late actor’s behalf.
Sutherland is featured in Baker’s upcoming documentary Standing on the Shoulders of Fate, on the making of Baker’s upcoming feature FATE, in which Donald Sutherland was to star, but sadly became ill a week before filming began. Also featured in the film are Nicholas Cage, Andrew McCarthy, Faye Dunaway, Harvey Keitel and others.
Baker comments, “Donald worked with me for eight months. The importance of his playing the role of Theodore was paramount to FATE. We were heartbroken when a week before we started filming, he hurt himself. I will be forever grateful for Donald and the constant professional platform that he stood on, which he brought to the script. Everyone involved in the film rallied around his character as he was the center of my film.”
