Hi Rikan! It is great to have you here today!

Thank you for having me!

When did you know that you wanted to make music your career?

I had a few moments in my life that made me want to make music. But to sum it up it’s a combination of struggle, depression, anger, poverty, and the need to be expressive. I was always different from anyone I was around friends or family. Whether it was where I’m from, how I’m dressed, how I act, what I look like, my living situations, etc. There’s always something that was problematic or threatening to people. I wasn’t raised normal. I felt outcasted. So with this in mind I would have a lot of issues with myself like I caused all this. I needed a way to be comfy with who I am but also show what else I can do to help myself, and one of the ways was with Hip Hop. The raw expression that comes with it was exactly what I felt I needed. As a kid, and even now, it’s been there for me more than anyone could. “This would be so dope if I can make this a career!” I thought later on from a kid. This could help others realize it’s ok to be who they are and be outcasted and unique. It’s all good. Hope this answers the question, sorry if I dragged it.

If you could open a show for any artist, who would it be and why?

I honestly haven’t thought about opening a show for anyone, let alone performing for a while now. Everything is so digital and stream based now, it’s been my main focus. Since I’m an Independent Artist, I have to play my own manager and wear different hats doing music (I hate it, but yo you gotta do it). If I was performing and had to choose who to open up for, it’d be Indie Artists like Token, Joyner Lucas, Snow Tha Product, Hopsin, Jarren Benton, Tech N9ne, Royce 5’9″, Yelawolf, NF, name a few. The biggest one would be Eminem though. That man saved my life.

If you had to be on a reality TV show, which one would you choose?

Reality show? Nah the reality shows are not ready for me I’ll straight get kicked out 1st day if I gotta hear drama. Don’t like reality shows. Like I’ll take a camera man’s camera and just throw it at Chad Buffmeat or whatever his name is. Put me in an Anime. THAT would be crazy. Shoutout to Anime. And hentai.

Do you have a go-to karaoke song?

I did a Karaoke song with a bunch of funny ass Martial Artists once. It was mad fun! We screamed the Pokémon 1st Gen song. I don’t think I’d change the formula either. Get me some dumasses I like and let’s put on some Anime music! If I don’t know the words then I’ll be the first hypeman for Karaoke.

Who has been your biggest cheerleader as an artist?

Some of the biggest support I’ve had throughout the years is based on certain actions. My man Nick from Portland. He checks on me from time to time to make sure I don’t stop creating. My homies Jaccar and Lijah are the same. We started rapping together in High School actually but I kept going with it. We had a song that did pretty good on OG Soundcloud back whenever Fuckin Problems came out (A$AP Rocky, Drake, 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar joint) from rapping on that beat. My Mother even though she isn’t a fan of what I do or say in songs has helped me progress my career. Shamarus won’t stop pressing me on music. It’s annoying but it’s from a good place. Natalie for really starting me off on my adventure with a FB tag. JT and Anthony for believing in my skills feeding me instrumentals to rap on. Ashleigh for helping make my name (long and funny story). If I left people out forgive me please. Oh yeah and my Father, bullies, racists, and family for failing me and providing toxic shit in my life. They’re special heroes.

Do you have anything coming up you want our readers to know about?

You can find my music on all streaming services (Spotify, Apple, etc). Just type Rikan and you’ll see my last two mixtapes and latest singles!

I never really have time to think about these questions but these made me think and reminisce which is good for me whether the memory is good or bad. I appreciate all of you for this and hope to get more music out to you all! I got a few in the chamber I’m editing the videos for to release soon and more big release singles on the way! I’m always working on shit so by all means keep an ear out! If you like songs that are different, funny, and meant for people who aren’t typical to others, check me out! Thank you for having me again!
