Hello! Great to speak with you today!

Great to speak with you as well!

What have you been working on lately?

I just released a compilation album called Femme Frequency! Femme Frequency was inspired by 5 female artists and producers coming together and exploring the topic of darkness to light to process through what had been happening in the world during 2020 and 2021 when the pandemic was in full force. The female artists:Tess Posner, Lil MC, Sadie Belica of The Waking Point, and Meghan Pulles along with Produced by a Girl (aka Mary Knoblock Founder & CEO of Produced by a Girl), decided on the name Femme Frequeny as it reflects the power of female creators and their unique frequency they bring to music, soundwriting and production. Produced by a Girl sponsored the compilation album alongside The Stachehaus, & KMG, and is honored to be surrounded by incredibly talented females in the music industry. Their talent shines on the album and brings renewal and light to a world that needs healing and equality, and strength.

Who inspired you to get into music?

There were so many, it’s hard to name just one. My parents were my first influence; they were multi-instrumentalists and shared their love of music with me. My father helped me learn classical guitar and my mother helped me learn flute and piano. I always had a deep appreciation for the piano and classical guitar and would often be inspired by all the classical composers  like Bach, and Mozart, also; Yann Tiersen, Sigur Ros, Grimes.I was very inspired to produce music after I saw the series “Mozart in the Jungle.”

When was the first time you recall thinking that you wanted to pursue music as your career?

The moment I came up with the name Produced by a Girl, and knew it would become a movement, platform and legacy to help elevate women in music. I like to say I never sought out the music industry. I just created music for the love of it, and produced a copious amount of songs and one day the music industry found me. Andre Williams was an incredible influence in my music career when it first started and his belief in me to make music a career was unprecedented. I am forever grateful for his support and the support of The Stachehaus.

What is your favorite song you’ve ever released and why?

Ocean of Lights. It’s one of the most expansive, minimalistic, deep, powerful, emotional songs I’ve ever composed. I believe it has the power to help others process deep emotions and memories that need healing. It’s a whole movie score condensed in a couple minutes. That amount of storytelling is incredibly hard to do in a few minutes and is what I strive for. So much emotion and so many layers of meaning. It was a gift to compose and a moment in time I’ll never forget especially the first time I heard the song playback. Magic.

Who are some of the artists currently inspiring you?

Lil MC, Meghan Pulles, Tess Posner and The Waking Point. Along with: Jaguar Sun, Khushi, Tambour, William Ryan Fricth, Horse Feathers, Holly Henderson, HunnyB, Jules and the Howl, Carina Fernandes, Rostam, Mondo Cozmo, Alyssa Ruffin, Davíð Þór jónsson, Ólafur Arnalds, Sophie Hutchings, Eluvium, Mappe Of, RL Grime, Guggi Savage, SHAYSOVA, Paul Marcus, ODESZA, Nils Frahm and more. I’m often inspired by 30-60 composers and artists at a time. I love all types of music. And if you’re reading this in the PBG fam, I’ve likely been inspired by you too. So many amazing artists, musicians, producers and composers in our community. Honored.

What are you hoping to see in the music world as it continues to evolve?

More representation of women in the studio. More women collaborating and lifting each other up in their careers. I also can’t wait to see how decentralization evolves in the music industry to give greater power to the artists to own their music in a way we’ve never seen music being owned or shared before.

Please let everyone know how they can keep up with you and your music!
