Welcome Mindy Pack!  Excited to chat with you today!  We would love to hear more about what you have been up to this year so far!

Thank you so much for having me.  This is so fun!    Hasn’t this year been crazy!   Who could have guessed that 2020 would be this unpredictable?   Well at the start of this year I was finishing up touring with clients who were finalizing their tour’s.   I love being on the road and touring and watching clients have the success of all their hard work and then seeing the audience having an amazing experience listening to one of their favorite bands.  I was also finishing up massage therapy school.  I know,  it sounds weird but as a vocal coach I wanted to have a full arsenal of tools in my vocal tool belt so I wouldn’t be limited in what I could do to help any artist.  Singing is a full body experience and i figured…why not, let’s go back to school and specialize in full body integrations for the performer.  It has been a game changer in my own voice as well as other clients I work with!

I was also trying to figure out how to work full time, go to school, be a wife, and homeschool three kids.  It was a lot!!!  I have learned a lot, mellowed a lot, and learned to appreciate the simple things.  I think this shut down and quarantine has made me appreciate that we don’t have to be so busy to truly appreciate all that we have.

We love your cover of “Shine for Me Again, Star of Bethlehem”. Share more about the experience of recording this and why you chose this song.

Thank you!   I love this song too.  I have sung this song since I was 12 years old.  It was originally a choir piece that was sung in my church.  I loved the melody and the message.    I would find myself singing it throughout the year!  About 6 years ago I was asked to be a session singer for a local composer, Daniel Carter,  who was recording demos.  I was in the studio recording and had this “Ah-Ha” moment where I realized this Daniel was the one who wrote this song.   I froze.  It was a very surreal moment for me.   Well fast forward a few years and he ended up marrying someone in my family.  We constantly sit around the piano and sing and work together on projects.   However, Shine for Me, Star of Bethlehem was one of his all-time favorite pieces he has ever written.

Last year when I was on tour, I was talking about this song to one of the music arrangers.  I asked him if he would help me rearrange the song and help turn it into a powerhouse vocal with a gospel choir as a surprise for Daniel.  Originally, I wanted to pitch the song to another client but when I heard it, I knew I had to record it.    Within a month we had refigured the arrangements, brought in the strings, and played around with the melody and choir.  I am in love with how it turned out.   We surprised Daniel with the final product and there were many tears.  I really want the listeners to feel the passion of the lyrics and message about this song.   This song is all about HOPE and who doesn’t need to feel hope, not only during the holidays but particularly this year!

We follow you on IG and love that you are not only a very talented musician but also a VERY accomplished vocal coach.  For those that may not be familiar – tell us more about that.

I have the coolest job right!   I work with clients all around the world and have two studios.  One in Salt Lake City, Utah where I am based and the other in Los Angeles, California and a lot of artists online.    As a singer and performer, I understand the demands and pressure artists deal with in their careers.  I have worked my whole life to understand all the different genres and styles of music but went back to school and became a certified Clinical Vocologist and now a Licensed Massage Therapist.  I deal with artists who are novice to the professional.  From rehabilitation to tour prep/maintenance, and helping people find their own unique artist fingerprint. If you have followed my Instagram then you would know that the past few years I have been really lucky to help some top level celebrities maintain their vocal longevity on tour and recording and have had the opportunity to see the world because of it.  How many people can say that they are doing what they love.  I LOVE going to work every day. I am very blessed.

What artists inspire you? Anyone that you would dream of collaborating with?

Oh man….  I have a few obsessions I would love to sing with and work with.   For inspiration I am a huge 80’s rock fan.  I would love to sing with Heart!  If we are talking current artists, then I would love to duet with Kelly Clarkson, Pink, or Justin Bieber.   Josh Groban melt’s me every time he sings so that would be amazing and I’m always hoping I will run into Post Malone because he lives here in Utah!  Honestly, I love all music so any chance I could sing with anyone I would jump all over that!

Anything else you would like to share with our readers?

If you would have told me ten years ago that I would be on tour with some of the biggest names in the industry I never would have believed you.   If you would have told me 5 years ago that I would be releasing my own song, I wouldn’t have thought you were nuts.  I guess my advice would be never say never, believe in yourself and don’t be afraid to try new things. Hard work pays off, being nice pays off, and always doing things honestly with good intentions pays off.  Knowledge is power so continue to learn and grow.  I am constantly learning, taking my own lessons, and figuring out how I can become better!   If you don’t invest and believe in yourself how can you expect anyone else to invest and believe in you!
